The buildings along the Ringstrasse in Vienna are a must-see when visiting the city. Vienna's city wall used to stand here until Emperor Franz Josef decided to demolish it at the end of the 19th century and open up a magnificent boulevard.
The Museum of Art and the Natural History Museum are undoubtedly among the most impressive buildings along the Ringstrasse. It is not easy to tell them apart. Opposite the museums is the Hofburg, the former residence of the emperor. Today, the Hofburg houses several museums, the National Library and the Sisi Museum.
The tour continues along the Ringstrasse past the Parliament to the Burgtheater and Rathausplatz. A short stop and walk through the park and across the square is worthwhile.
Next stop Votivkirche! This impressive sandstone church was built to thank Emperor Franz Josef for surviving an assassination attempt.
The route continues along the streets of Vienna towards the Danube Canal. The stop at Schwedenplatz is a good place to stroll along Rotenturmstrasse towards Stephansplatz and St. Stephen's Cathedral. Many restaurants and stores in the side streets invite you to take a break.
From Schwedenplatz, the route continues past the Urania and the MAK - Museum of Applied Arts to the Stadtpark. Here you can visit the famous golden Johann Strauss monument.
The last stop on this tour is at one of Vienna's latest highlights, the Johann Strauss Museum - New Dimensions, an immersive experience of Strauss' life and music. The start of the Naschmarkt is also at this stop.
The HOP ON HOP OFF bus then takes you back to your starting point or to the transfer stops for up to 3 other routes.
