Johann Strauss lived in this flat for seven years. At the time, Praterstrasse was an elegant and fashionable suburban street. It was here that he composed the waltz ‘On the Blue Danube’, Austria's popular unofficial national anthem, in 1867. Like a shrine to this world-class composer, his flat displays some of Strauss' personal collections, instruments and furniture, giving visitors an insight into the life of this enthusiastic musician.
From caricatures to billiard tables, you can take a peek into Strauss' world and better understand one of Vienna's most successful composers.
