The Belvedere is one of the most beautiful and important museums in the world and is one of the most visited sights in Vienna. This is mainly due to the fact that the Belvedere Palace is home to the largest Klimt collection in the world. A total of 24 works by the famous Austrian painter Gustav Klimt can be admired here, including the world-famous “Kiss”.
Formerly situated in the midst of vineyards at the gates of the imperial city, the two Belvedere palaces, which are connected by a unique Baroque garden, served as a summer residence for their builder, Prince Eugene of Savoy.
The Upper Belvedere - built between 1717 and 1723 - rises dominantly on a hill, offering a fascinating view over Vienna. The Belvedere was also one of the first public museums and served as the site of the Austrian State Treaty in 1955.
