Bus tour Vienna Woods
On this bus tour you travel outside of Vienna to the southern part of the Vienna Woods, passing the former Roman spa town of Baden and driving through the romantic Helen’s valley. Enjoy the ride in our comfortable coach while outside the beautiful landscape passes by on our way to Mayerling.
Mayerling & Abbey Heiligenkreuz
Our first stop on this bus trip is the memorial chapel built on the site of the former imperial hunting lodge of Mayerling. In 1889 the tragedy of crown prince Rudolf and his mistress Baroness Vetsera took place at the lodge. Learn more about these fateful events during a tour through the memorial chapel and the adjoining showroom.
Afterwards we visit the Abbey Heiligenkreuz, which was founded in 1133 and still today, it is an active monastery. On the tour we show you the medieval cloister and the burial place of the former Babenberger rulers. This dynasty was the oldest in Austria and shaped its history throughout many centuries.
Boat trip on Europe’s biggest underground lake
Continuing on our trip we pass the Höldrichsmühle, once an old mill where the composer Franz Schubert created his music. Last stop on our bus tour is the Seegrotte Hinterbrühl, where Europe’s biggest underground lake awaits you. By boat we travel through the mystically lighted galleries. The green shimmering water and the rough stonewalls add to the very special atmosphere.
At the end of our half-day trip to the Vienna woods we take you back to Vienna by bus. Final stop is at the Vienna State Opera.
