Josephinum

In 1785 Emperor Joseph II founded the Josephinum as a medical and surgical military academy. It is the most significant example of neoclassical architecture in Vienna and an important legacy of the Enlightenment in Austria. The Josephinum is the historic gateway to the Medical University of Vienna. Its collections of the history of medicine include the unique anatomical wax models made in Florence, impressive instruments, books, archive documents and manuscripts.
