Join us for an unforgettable day trip through the picturesque Wachau Valley starting from Vienna.

This full-day excursion takes you through the enchanting Danube Valley, where the Danube River winds gently through one of Europe’s most beautiful cultural landscapes. The Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage site, impresses with its steep vineyards, charming villages, and historical landmarks along the river.

Our first stop is the town of Dürnstein, famous for its impressive castle ruins, which watch over the town from above. Dürnstein is a place where history and nature merge in a unique way. The ruins were once the prison of Richard the Lionheart, the English king, and offer a breathtaking view of the Danube Valley.

Next, we head to Spitz, an idyllic town in the Wachau. There, in the summer months, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy the stunning landscape on a boat ride along the Danube. As you glide gently over the river, you can admire the picturesque vineyards and rolling riverbanks that make the region so unique.

The final stop on the tour is Melk, where the world-famous Melk Abbey stands majestically. This Baroque masterpiece, perched high above the Danube, is a true architectural gem and a place of great historical significance. During a guided tour, you will learn more about the history of the abbey, which played an important role in medieval and early modern Europe.

After visiting Melk Abbey, our comfortable coach will bring you back to Vienna, where the tour ends at around 6:00 PM.

Loved our tour guide but didn’t get his name. Went on October 29, 2025. His discussion of history was very interesting and he was very knowledgeable.

Lovely day out of Vienna We really enjoyed the convience of using this tour to see Melk Abbey, Durnstein and have a cruise on the Danube. Our stop at Durnstein was short but it is a very small town and unless you want to climb up to the ruins it is adequate. The cruise on the Danube was just the right amount of time and we were able to get seats on the top deck. In Melk, we had time to have a delicious lunch just outside the abbey and the guide inside was excellent. Tommy our tour guide and the driver did an great job of keeping us together. I would highly recommend this tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed this day trip which included a boat ride down the Danube and bus to Melk. The bus was a double decker,so easily accommodated our large group. Lots of leg room, though the overhead shelf is a little too small to hold our backpacks. We had great weather for our boat ride, so most of our group sat on the upper deck. There was time for some of us to have lunch/drinks on the boat. We opted to have lunch at Melk abbey during the 1.5 hours prior to our tour. The Melk tour was informative, but the best part was at the end of the tour, where we saw the libraries and the church. Unfortunately, we had only 15 minutes after the tour to see the church as the tour went longer by 15 minutes. Tour guide was good and it was well organized, so I would recommend this tour as a relaxing day trip away from Vienna.
